The ADD Child: Challenging Parents, Teachers and Friends

Filed under: Hall Of Lifestyle — @ 4:22 pm

The ADD child exhibits a series of behaviors that are common in
most children. Most children misbehave, act silly and day dream.
So what, then, is the difference? The child with Attention
Deficit Disorder exhibits these behaviors in a constant and
extreme manner, often interfering with their academic, social
and family interactions. Here are the variety of ways that a
child may exhibit ADD behaviors:

Inattention: The most visible and well-known behavior of a child
with attention deficit issues is an inability to maintain
attention and focus over an extended period of time. This
behavior shows up in a variety of situations, such as forgetting
or confusing instructions that were just given, being
inattentive when involved in a conversation, growing bored of
activities within moments, appearing to be in a daze or day
dream, and being unable to complete tasks.

Hyperattention: Paradoxically, the same ADD child who cannot
stay focused enough to finish many common tasks will have no
problem whatsoever in focusing on a video game or TV show for
hours. This ability to hyper-focus on chosen activities is very
common in the child with Attention Deficit Disorder. This
behavior is possible only because the child pursues the
desirable activity through a heightened level of excitement
which is a controlled form of hyperactivity.

Distractibility: An ADD child can be easily distracted from most
activities by any form of stimulus in the environment (movement,
color, sound), as well as by their own scattered, fast-moving
thoughts. This results in half-finished or poorly completed
tasks, constant minor non-compliances with known rules,
zig-zagging from one activity to another, and the inability for
the child to do well in group situations (such as school) where
compliance with the rules is important.

Impulsivity: An ADD child will often blurt out information in
inappropriate ways and make poor decisions relative to their
actions. This child may risk his or her own safety without a
second thought, running into the street, climbing to the top of
a tree or rock formation, or jumping or diving into a pool
without checking the depth. The child with ADD acts on impulse
rather than through logic or problem-solving. Impulsivity in
many ADD children can also be characterized by impatience or
temperamental (often oppositional) behavior since the ADD child
often feels a driving need for something (anything!) to happen
immediately.

Hyperactivity: Of all the characteristics of an ADD child, the
behavior that is most difficult for those around the child to
accept is the presence of hyperactivity. The child with
hyperactivity is always in motion — touching, searching,
pushing, jumping, running, tapping, and squabbling with friends
and siblings. The hyperactive ADD child seems to need a high
level of stimulation at all times in order to feel OK.
Hyperactivity will also be seen in the form of a child who talks
incessantly, clowns around all of the time, and finds every
other form of trouble that a parent can name.

Insatiability: The ADD child has an insatiable need for
attention to be brought onto himself. While all children thrive
on adult attention, focus and concern, the child with ADD can
never seem to get enough. They act out, talk incessantly, joke
around, monopolize conversations, demand the teacher’s constant
involvement, show off to friends, and badger incessantly until
they get their way.

Clumsiness and Poor Coordination: Many ADD children exhibit
problems with fine motor control. This can be seen in poor
handwriting and in difficulty performing other routine tasks
such as buttoning buttons or tying shoelaces. When combined with
the child’s inability to plan or organize a flow of activities,
the resulting outcome (written paper, self-dressing, etc.) may
appear chaotic and disorganized. Many ADD children also exhibit
gross motor control clumsiness due to poor motor planning
cognitive skills or other co-existing weaknesses in areas such
as balance, depth-perception or eye-hand coordination.

Disorganization: The ADD child is a study in disorganization!
Whether it is the state of the child’s room, the organization of
a term paper, the set up of the child’s school supplies and
workspace, grooming, dressing and hygiene skills, or any other
aspect of the child’s life, the most probable outcome will be a
disorganized mess. This results from the ADD child’s impulsivity
(jumping at any solution), distractibility (stopping in the
middle of any activity), hyperactivity (pulling out and tearing
apart everything in sight), and inattention (they lose interest
anyway!).

Mood Swings: With an ADD child, everything is always at
extremes, and their range of emotions is no different. In some
cases, they can be extremely domineering and controlling as they
seek to gain attention for themselves. In other cases, they can
be unreachable, and no amount of discipline or parental
intervention seems to have an effect. When an child with ADD is
“stuck” in the emotions of the moment, there seems to be no way
for reasonable discussions to bypass the emotional whirlwind in
progress. ADD children can be described as oppositional,
stubborn, overly-dramatic, flighty, ecstatically happy or
excessively sensitive, just to name a few of the extremes
experienced by ADD children.

Poor Social Skills: Based on all of the issues discussed so far,
it’s not surpising that ADD children don’t fare well with peer
relationships. They speak and act impulsively, show off and
dominate conversations or class time, clown around at
inappropriate times, miss subtle social cues, may be physically
clumsy and awkward, and often irritate and annoy their peers in
a thousand daily ways.

As a result of the symptoms and behaviors just described, the
ADD child encounters all too many difficulties in their young
lives. True ADD should not be considered a “phase” that will be
outgrown. Rather, parents and educators should seek all of the
education and knowledge they can find to help these kids
flourish and succeed throughout the elementary school years.

Do societal marketing contributes beneficially for the bette

Filed under: Humor Tips — @ 11:42 am

Let’s first define that what societal marketing is:

“Societal marketing blends social, company and customers wants.”

The modern time is the time of information, peoples are more aware of sensitive issues which the earlier generations did not know, like shortage of resources, health issues, environmental deterioration.

And the reason of this well learned society is ubiquity of information, through the means of electronic media and print media, and internet now is playing very important part in providing up to date information at the rate of just one click.
So this generation have developed the ability to judge any marketing strategy, whether it is correct or not?

Is Societal marketing contributing for the betterment of Pakistani consumers?

Trend of societal marketing is growing rapidly by the time. Many multinational companies are adopting this marketing philosophy to get the attention of well learned customers of the society and to educate normal citizen.

Societal marketing sidesteps the potential conflict between customer wants, company interests and long run societal welfare.

For example:

•Proctor & Gamble Pakistan has introduced the brand of fat free oil to prevent the growing ratio of heart disease.
•Various automobile manufacturers are focusing more on producing CNG cars that is not only environmental friendly but it is also very economical. So this trend is getting popular very quickly. One can verify it by observing the increasing number of CNG stations.
•There are various companies that are favoring the use of recycled paper to aid more life to trees.

But, Pakistan is an under develop country, there are 35% Pakistani’s that are living below the poverty line,
Availability of Clean water, High Standard Education, Pollution are the big concerns for Pakistan consumers.

•White collar person in Pakistani society can not buy a bottle of mineral water for its supper unless it is in his economical range.
•Virtual University could not be successful if it had a same fee criteria as that of others institutions.
•People would not use CNG cars if it was expansive.

Conclusion:

From Pakistani consumers’ point of view, I have come to the conclusion that any marketing strategy, regardless of how beneficent it can be for the betterment of human life, cannot appeal Pakistani customers, unless it is economical.

War Poems on Iraqi [America at War]

1) After the Dawn of War II

[Iraqi 2006]

I looked over the shoulder of the world

Through its crawling fog

And heard the cold cries

Seen the stir in the eyes

Heard the trumpets of war

Breaking the silence of dawn

(Heard somebody say):

“Soldiers will die today

For Iraqi Liberty

That thou endure.”

3) War Flag III

(Post Iraqi)

Lone are the days and short

Before the next cruel war

What spirit then shall fill a sweet despair?

To wave the flag of war…and say:

“I’m here and Ready!

3) The Color of War I

[Iraqi: war poem]

I saw the other day

A little boy coloring away

(With crayons) in a sketch book;

With every colored pencil

Under the rainbow

And then some…

And when I took a second look

I thought of the Iraqi war

(American and Allied soldiers)

And all the colors it stood for:

Red was for the blood they’ve shed;

Gray, for depression of their families

Far away…

Blue was for sad skies;

Black and white, for death and life;

Green, for the spoils we’ve not seen;

Brown, for the dray and dusty nights

All the solders had to fighton

Foreign ground.

I pleaded, for the boy to stop,

Surprised, he looked up at me

With his deep blue eyes, haunting

Me, he said, with a tear on his cheek:

“I wanted to color the soldier’s feet!”

I looked and there it read: ‘Peace’

Already colored-in, with gray:

Said the boy still looking at me:

“That’s the way it came.”

Here is an unusual war poem Dennis has written today, on the Iraqi war. He said after following it for four years, “…it is getting old; yet it sells papers doesn’t it?” He was for
the war when it was a war, so he told me, but now it is not, it is more a police action, he explains to me, and feels perhaps we have overstayed our welcome. “And what are the motivating factors now?” he asks. He adds, “When we get into questioning the motives, after a war, when they are not clear, it is perhaps time to leave…” Dennis being a Vietnam Veteran knows a little bit about how it all works; and here in this poem, he paints his picture of war, the Iraqi war, and how he sees the colors of war through color crayons of a little boy. Rosa Penaloza

Commentary on War: I’m fifty-eight years old, and I can’t remember a time when the United States was not at war, preparing for another war, or just getting over a war (not to include WWI and WWII); thus, we’ve had a busy half-century. I was but three years old when the Korean War broke out, in l950, and in 1953, when it was tranquilized. Then again in 1964, my friends went to Vietnam, and I in 1971, that war ended in 1975, an eleven year war. I thought we’d have peace but we got a few more wars in-between (we always do); such as, in the 80s Haiti involvement, Granada, and some secret Central American things; nothing real big. And then we got Bosnia in the 90s, and a few other little East Europe wars to attend to (mixed with these wars we had Granada and a few African uprisings); always helping out Europe with their little squats, which they feel are important, and when it comes to American made squats, of course they are less important to them.

Also in the 90s we got Iraqi I, and in the now 21st Century, we’ve had to contend with Afghanistan and Iraqi II. We are a country full of warlords to be sure. What will be next, between 2007 and 2016, as I had predicted in 1984, we will be in line with the onset of WWIII. We have been fighting it since l950, with Korea, now it is set in motion: the war on terror is part of it of course. When I say set in motion, I mean, things are going to fly. We already got Iran and Korea on the hot list; Syria is bordering it; and we are going to have to contend with the Arabs sneaking through South America to North America and lighting up a path once they got on solid ground. Russia and China are becoming economies with highbrow ideas; we may have ruled the 90s, but I fear, things will change, as often they do. Dlsiluk

Single pane glass repair in an aluminum frame, part 2

Filed under: Better Gardening — @ 5:03 am

This week we are going to continue our series on single pane window glass repair. Let’s talk about broken glass in a fixed window, usually referred to as a picture window. The most common type will have metal stops on the outside, around all four edges of the window glass. Sometimes these stops will be held in place with screws, and other times there will be aluminum stops that snap in place. In some rare instances there will be a rubber material in place of metal. If you have the screw type, you remove all of the screws and each piece will come out. If you have the metal snap in stops, carefully pry the stop from the frame using a small, flat screwdriver or a putty knife. You want to start in a corner and work along the stop until it comes out. Don’t pry too much because the stops can bend very easily. If you have the rubber type, pry a corner away using the screwdriver, grab it with your fingers, and pull out the rubber. The glass shouldn’t fall out because there is a glue or tape on the edge, holding the glass in place.

From here, You can get your measurements for the new piece of glass. The glass edges will be exposed, and you can hook your tape measure to the edge and get your width and height. If there is a hole in the glass, measure the glass thickness. If there isn’t a hole, put on some gloves and carefully push on the glass where the crack is located. This will expose the edge so you can measure it. When you go to get the new glass, you’re going to need a tube of silicone to replace the glue or tape holding the glass in place. Once you get the glass home, you need to remove the old glass. Go inside and cut between the glass and frame using a utility knife with a new blade. This will cut away the silicone or tape that is holding the old glass. Be sure to wear heavy gloves during this process to avoid getting cut. Start at the top and cut across from one corner to the other. Then cut down one side, from top to bottom. Do the other side the same way. At this point the glass should fall out. You should place a tarp or sheet under the window to catch the glass as it falls out. Using a stiff putty knife, scrape off the old silicone or tape from the frame. If there were setting blocks on the bottom, be sure to reuse them. They act as shims to raise the glass off the bottom.

Now run a bead of silicone about 3/16″ thick around the perimeter of the opening. Grab your new glass on the sides, angle the bottom in and the top out, set the glass on the setting blocks, then slowly raise the glass up into place. Push just hard enough that all four edges of the glass contact the silicone, but not so hard that the glass makes contact with the metal frame. Install your outside stops. Don’t clean the glass for 24 hours so the silicone can set up.

Next week i will continue this series on window glass repair. You know, i knew the Trojans were going to win the National Championship, but i had no idea they would do it so convincingly. Last year all USC fans were saying how great it would be to see one final game between LSU and USC. This year, it’s the Auburn fans wishing for one last game. When do you suppose the morons in charge of College football will figure out what we already know

The Dog Told Me To Do It!

Filed under: Animal Supplies — @ 4:07 am

You have heard the stories when the teacher asked the child where his homework is and he answers, “the dog ate my homework”! Maybe the dog did but what about the story where the little boy states, “The dog told me to do it!”

Isn’t it interesting that we can take something, make it humorous and then make it into a movie! There has been a series of movies lately with new born infants talking, then the animals are talking in the next movie, then similar movies with other animals talking. In most of these movies, the “humans” (or adults) were unaware of the conversations or the depth of the conversations. Do you think the people that came up with these ideas knew something, perhaps?

There is a book that was out 20-30 years ago about a woman that discussed talking with animals. She stated that prior to learning how to speak, we all possess the ability to communicate non-verbally. As we begin to learn to talk, we slowly lose this ability of non-verbal communication. Reach deep into your own memories and explore those times when something just was not quite right with one of your pets. As you deeply contemplated the problem, the answer came to you out of nowhere! It probably didn’t come out of nowhere and no, you didn’t rely on your own Genius. Your pet told you what you were looking for through telepathy.

We have studied animal communication for years through their behavior patterns. Depending on the type of animal, we could reasonably understand what certain behaviors meant in a given situation. This could be studying the interspecies behaviors patterns or studying the behavior patterns of a male to the female during mating season of one species. This brings to mind the bird’s broken wing act to lure a predator away from discovering where her nest is and preying on her young. What about the displays that two males might perform to gain control of their herd between challengers?

This has been something that we have been able to study and explain so as to make it feasible for the average person to understand. People that are into training horses can learn less aggressive means to train horses rather than the old cowboy style of bucking them out until they are “saddle broke”.

If you do a search on the internet under “animal communication”, you will now be able to find the people that were able to maintain their ability to communicate with animals. It’s a very small percentage of individuals that are able to maintain their ability to continue to communicate non-verbally. For them it is a gift. For us, it is a gift when you know one of these people personally.

The study of animal behavior is fascinating and it is something that most of us can understand and work with. The Telepathy method is not so easy to understand because we do not all have this gift nor is it feasible that we can understand and work with Telepathy as well as we can work with animal behavior techniques. There are numerous stories of how these gifted people are able to communicate with an animal that a veterinarian is having difficulty diagnosing and in minutes, they have a solution for the veterinarian. Some of these people, through their special gift work with veterinarians thousands of miles away. Some of them work with people with amazing results (but this is another topic in itself).

The next time you talk to your toddler, maybe he or she is right. Maybe, “The dog told me to do it!”
