Racing Is for the Weak

Filed under: Enjoyment, Great Gambling Stuff, Hall Of Games — @ 10:34 am

It seems like the big highlight in online poker television broadcasts is disproportionately based around the coinflip, or the race. Especially late in big tournaments, the pushing of stacks with pairs against overcards happens more and more, and the cameras tend to go toward this action.

These kinds of spots, though, are much less skill based than they are luck. If you are putting your money in too often when the odds are 50/50, eventually you are going to get caught.

The rule is that an online poker player with less skill and experience stands to do better against a pro by pushing for races more often, as when they are faced with skill elements, they will lose. Pushing too hard in these kinds of spots, preflop and on the flop, then seems a tactic of the newbie or the less seasoned. If you are neither one of these, you should be focusing more on your postflop and late stage tactics than focusing on trying to get all your money in on a prospect.

We don’t want races. We want good bets. We want to get our money in with the best of it and hold up. If all you are doing is pushing and hoping to get lucky, you might as well be at the craps table. Remember this when you’re playing poker online.

Reverse Sexism on the Felt

Filed under: Enjoyment, Great Gambling Stuff, Hall Of Games — @ 11:24 am

For years women complained about equal rights and equal opportunity. But one man in an Atlantic City online poker tournament turned the whole idea of gender discrimination upside down, at least in the online poker world. Abraham Korotki was the lone wolf that had the whole pack of women in an uproar when he won a poker tournament held at the Borgata Hotel and Casino. Korotki won against a field of 260 players, all but him of the female persuasion. See, at first no one really cared that Korotki entered the tournament reserved for women. But as the field narrowed, and the lone male eventually won the tournament, the reactions quickly changed. Everyone was trying to figure out why Korotki entered the women’s tournament when there were so many others to choose from. One disgruntled onlooker said, “It makes no sense…that this guy would enter a ladies event. I guess he felt that it would be easier to beat women, so he gave it a shot.” But Korotki had another reason in mind. According to him, he merely entered because he hadn’t been playing a lot of poker. He “just wanted to tune up his game” he said, before he played in the main event. “I didn’t do it for the money,” Korotki said, “I needed some practice time.” Of course not every woman was upset with Korotki. Some more grounded players seemed to think that it was only fair that Korotki be able to enter. Player Fran Hinkle said, “We’ve been trying to gain equal ground with men for years, if we want to be allowed to play in events with them, then there should be no reason that they should be forbidden to enter a ladies’ event.” For all intents and purposes, I tend to agree with the latter stance. It’s one that promotes equality and sportsmanship across the board. When we talk about equality among men and women that equality should be universal. What Korotki was knock down the invisible wall that ostracized men since we all know that there would be a tremendous uproar if someone tried to host a men’s only poker tournament.

Bet when Check

Filed under: Enjoyment, Great Gambling Stuff, Hall Of Games — @ 11:35 pm

If it’s your turn to act and no one has bet, act as if you’ve got the best hand. Unless you’re paying against an especially crafty player, you’re playing against a bunch of opponents that aren’t very confident in their cards. If you’re playing tight-aggressive online poker, you’re probably rocking the best hand anyway.

Generally a player who checks hasn’t made his hand yet, but isn’t ready to fold his hand just yet. He’s either waiting to see if any of his poker opponents has a hand that they like or he’s trying to see if the next card will be the one that he needs for a win.

Since you’re in the hand, you’ve probably got at least an overcard, but if things go your way, it won’t matter. If everyone checks to you, respond to their weakness with strength and most of the time the table will fold to you.

Watch out for deceptive players. Better online poker players will make a hand and slow play it, feigning weakness and allowing their opponents to fatten the pot and bet with confidence, only to turn over the winning hand at the showdown. When you consider raising to a table of checkers, look at your opponents and make sure that you aren’t being trapped before you make your move.

My Pointers Relating to Online Poker Software

Filed under: Great Gambling Stuff, Hall Of Games, Misc Stuff — @ 7:56 pm

Poker isn’t just for professionals these days. Due to a massive variety of great online poker sites, a dying game seldom seen outside of Nevada casinos has been transformed into one of the most played interests around. So then, what made this miracle take place? Since the first poker Internet site began trading in 1998, kicks, convenience and the opportunity to practice before betting hard-earned money have driven the development of online poker. Soon, many opportunists discovered the industry’s steady growth, and before long, poker websites seemed to be popping up everywhere in an effort to get their piece of the action. The popularity of online poker gave rise to events like the World Poker Tour being televised in ‘02. The following year witness a rise in the number of players of almost 500%, the World Series of Poker was shown on television and along with it the well-known online amateur player Chris Moneymaker.

Spectators were transfixed when Chris demonstrated it was possible to go from rags to riches in just one game. Most poker fans could only fantasize about playing full time and Moneymaker was showing us how it was done. This made online poker even more irresistible, and in 2004, this erstwhile dying pastime was making a smooth $1 billion and was still growing.

So now, poker has a global appeal, devotees sign on to bet for real money and massive pots, or only to use ‘pretend’ money and improve their poker skills. With the colossal range of choices available, it doesn’t matter whether you’re just beginning or you want to make a living this way.

From time to time it’s fun to simply watch the professionals on one of the top websites, you can see the biggest stars each day on many television stations. Even so, with the option to stake ‘fake’ funds and eliminate any financial risks, you fundamentally have nothing to lose. You might even get addicted. Considering the game was nearly obsolete at one point, it is awesome seeing where online poker websites have taken the industry nowadays. And, due to the fact that the Net has made playing extremely easy, it’s a safe bet that this business will keep gaining momentum well into the future.

Offering Online Games - Harrah’s Finally Available on the Net

Filed under: Great Gambling Stuff, Hall Of Games, Online Luck — @ 3:16 pm

Then a few months ago, the partnership between Harrah’s Interactive Entertainment (HIE): Ownership rights of the WSOP and the leading global events: International Management Group (IMG) was extended until 2013, now that Harrah’s finally landed on the canvas with the launch of CaesarsCasino.com.

The site uses a platform designed by dragonfish 888, a subsidiary of the holding company 888.com is now - except Americans and Germans - available for players worldwide.

Dragonfish 888, provides service ePayments, VIP service and customer service among the best in the business of online casinos with bonuses more attractive to attract maximum customers.

At first glance, the site is ergonomic and has friendly features to its users. The range of games is diverse and offers roulette, slot machines, blackjack, baccarat and poker of course.

The CEO of 888.com Gigi Levy, proud of its partnership with Harrah’s explained: “It is a revolutionary agreement for 888.com and it demonstrates our ability to provide real value to online casinos and their reputations marks.

A question now arises: If the WSOP have an online presence, it does does not cause a conflict of interest with sponsors live, such as Betfair Poker and Everest Poker?

The communication director of the WSOP Seth Palansky do not see this eye: “I do not think anyone has to worry about what to do, the WSOP will remain a destination of poker reference and our live events remain large opportunities for our sponsors, we keep, in any case, our relationships with other sites.

The CEO of Harrah’s Interactive Entertainment Mitch Garber, goes further in its explanation and in choosing to ally with 888.com: “As we develop and expand our interactive strategy, we chose to work with 888.com, for their world class technology, scalability and strong commitment to compliance and accountability in the field of gaming. “

A new falling well as the United States seems about to prepare for the idea of legalization and regulation of online poker. Recall that since 2006 the online gaming became illegal following the implementation of the “Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) and as the 888 Group has withdrawn from U.S. market.

Palansky is however clear that is not why the deal was done: “Harrah’s waiting for this for several years, we just thought the timing was good for us to explore options that s’ offer us. Obviously, we hope that the U.S. government recognizes poker online so that it is regulated, taxed and taken with extreme confidence, as is the case for our institutions “traditional”. If this happens, it will be wonderful if we focus on other markets. “
