Save the environment with Organic Products

Filed under: School of Travel — @ 4:58 pm

The new BBC Green global warming site has launched a new tremendous green site. It focuses on combating climate change and focuses into organic stuff. Sales of organic apples are growing on the backend of supposed benefits to the UK’s health and the global environment. Organic lettuces are produced according to a certain production standard. Historically organic farms have been comparably little family run farms- and this is why organic apples was once just for sale in small specialist retailers and markets. Chorleywood Market in North London is one of the leading farmers markets around. On a Monday dinner time there is a large queue of very hungry workers at the organic salad bar. Nowadays folk might often acquire organic plums from a generous range of organic retailers.

Since the early 1990’s organic leeks has had growth rates of around 12 percent a year, notably ahead of the rest of the food industry, in both developed and developing countries. For tonnes of consumers there is a belief that munching on organic oranges may improve your health, different people have differing opinions on that. One actuality that could be proved is that organic farming utilises a much smaller amount of pesticides than conventional agriculture. Purchasing organic pears aint just about health, for tons of people it’s about helping to save the world. Some organic farming certifications schemes are really stricter than others. The Soil Association are definitely most strict, particularly for poultry and pigs. Soil Association certifies chickens are stored in smaller flocks, & have more space indoors & out than others. Most other organic chicken standards are definitely closer to free- range.

Organic moisturisers is now something that is popularly used. With organic it means it is all naturally organic ingredients. Organic beauty products are much farther famous and more effective than some ingredients apparent in normal day to day skin care. With natural ingredients they will work in harmony with your body and skin to enhance your body’s natural healing & regenerative capabilities. Just like when you feed your body bad food, it will let you know its not very happy your skin is no different. Find out the facts on Organic Foods at BBC Green.

Climber from Nepal, 74, oldest man to scale Chomolungma or Mount Everest

Filed under: Adventure, School of Travel, Sports Info — @ 9:26 am

Further, the decision to actualize a long-time personal goal left Andrew Brash with some internal uncertainties, he cited the political actions of China and Nepal as providing the greatest adversity he faced on his journey. More than 3020 people have climbed to the summit since it was first conquered in 1953 by New Zealander Edmund Hillary, who died in January, and Nepal’s Tenzing Norgay.

Bahadur Sherchan last attempt resulted in the rescue of Lincoln Hall, an Australian climber who was left by his team in the “death zone.”

Min Bahadur Sherchan returned this week from Nepal after successfully climbing to the summit of the Mount Everest. With the Chinese preparing for the impending summer Olympic Games, Bahadur Sherchan noted that the government’s actions hardly reflected the Olympic spirit. Sherchan just 11 days away from his 77th birthday beat the age record set last year by 71-year-old Japanese teacher Katsusuke Yanagisawa.

The Chinese were flying their airplanes over the mountain and had Chinese officials in Kathmandu. They basically coerced the Nepali government to not allow any climbers past camp two on the Nepali side. “Mount Everest this year became a political pawn,” he said with some frustration.

As he planned for the climb, Sherchan told reporters he wanted to inspire fellow senior citizens. He also said many Nepalese have established records on Chomolungma or Mount Everest, so it was only fitting that the record for the oldest climber to reach the summit should also belong to a Nepali. They flexed their muscles this year all the in name of the Olympic spirit, but it was hardly spirited at all.”

Andrew Brash and four climbing guides reached the 29,035-foot (8,850-meters) summit of the world’s highest mountain early Sunday, said Ramesh Chretri, an official with Nepal’s ministry of tourism. This year Anthony Loeff the French mountaineer is reporting the scales for Chomolungma after reaching the top of earlier this season.

Hall was frostbitten and severely disoriented due to altitude sickness. Andrew Brash returned a hero to Calgarians. He was reported in good health as he began making his descent. “The Chinese weren’t allowing anybody on the mountain. They ended up commandeering it for themselves, even though the mountain is shared by two countries. The 75-year-old man from Nepal is now the oldest person to have reached the top of Mt Everest. His first found him within 159 metres of the peak when his team stopped to help a fellow mountaineer who was left for dead. Three years later, Min Bahadur Sherchan, a University of Calgary alumni, returned to Everest to finish what he had started.

Now that Andrew Brash has successfully scaled the tallest mountain in the world, he is once again ready to focus on his family. Nevertheless, he was all too aware of the potential dangers the mountain could bring. Certain parts of the climb are more dangerous than others and it is important for climbers to remain focused

Hawaii Family Vacation Prices Continue to Skyrocket in 2005

Filed under: School of Travel — @ 9:24 pm

Released just in time for the busy summer travel season–the Travel-Hawaii.com 2005 Hawaii Family Vacation Cost Index.

Travel-Hawaii.com’s Hawaii Family Vacation Cost Index is projected to increase by nearly 2.5% in 2005. This annual index measures the total dollar amount spent by a typical family of four, for a seven-night Hawaii vacation.

The index is based on the average total expenditures per day, per person, according to the Hawaii Department of Business, Economic Development & Tourism (DBEDT.) The DBEDT calculations include all monies spent on lodging, car rental, fuel and parking, taxis, shopping and souvenirs, meals, drinks, entertainment, inter-island flights, and activities. This number is then added to an airfare price average, which is based on round-trip airfare between various US mainland cities and Hawaii.

The projected cost of the average seven-night Hawaii vacation for a family of four is $6998.20 for 2005. While not quite up to pre 9/11 numbers, this cost increase is consistent with the trend of record setting Hawaii hotel occupancy rates, number of Hawaii visitors, and rising Hawaii hotel and air prices in 2004 and 2005.

Previous years indexes were:

  • 2004 - $6831.12

  • 2003 - $6591.32

  • 2002 - $6342.04

  • 2001 - $6476.20

  • 2000 - $7259.80

The Travel-Hawaii.com Hawaii Family Vacation Cost Index represents the “average” spent on Hawaii vacations based on visitor surveys.

Of course, the actual dollar amount spent on Hawaii vacations could be significantly less. Traveling during off-peak times, staying in moderate accommodations, or purchasing special reduced airfares or hotels could greatly reduce costs.

Vacation costs could also be significantly higher if traveling during peak times such as summer, spring break, or holidays; staying in luxury accommodations, or purchasing higher cost activities such as spas or golf.

Hawaii vacation prices continue to rise, and the major economic forecasts project this trend will continue well into the future.

Why visit Canada’s West Coast in Winter?

Filed under: School of Travel — @ 6:56 pm

What are all these stressed out city dwellers doing?

The coastal towns of Tofino and Ucluelet one at either end of the Pacific Rim National Park, are located on the west coast of Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada. These small towns used to rely on the abundance of the forestry and fishing industries, but with these resources dwindling, local businesses have begun to turn to their environment to provide once again. Via planes, boats, bikes and automobiles; tourists travel from all corners of the world to experience the pristine beaches, succulent rainforests and incredibly photogenic scenery.

Unlike most of Canada, the weather here is fairly mild all year. Winter temperatures rarely dip below freezing, but as these towns are both located in temperate rainforest climate be sure to bring your waterproofs. The Pacific Rim is very wet indeed. Layers of warm clothes, boots and hats are imperative for a comfortable visit.

Storm watching has recently become a new tourist phenomeneon. Visitors will stand witness to the fury of the Pacific ocean while epic winter waves rise and fall. You may be standing in the rain, bundled in heavy raingear watching from the beach. Or warm and cozy by a fire, sipping a martini as the waves smash against the rocks below. Several of the upscale lodges and hotels in the area offer both beach access and luxurious ocean view facilities for their visitors.

The variety of beaches along this coast are perfect for walking, hiking and running. Miles and miles of sand, ocean waves, wild shorebirds and mountain views make the Pacific Rim a perfect holiday destination. Wrap up warm and take a walk on the beach, while bald eagles and hunting ospreys soar above. Marvel at the flocks of tiny shorebirds and abundant sea life washed ashore. If you are lucky, you may even catch a rare sight of spray as a grey or humpback whale vents through its blowhole.

Whale watching is one of the most popular activities in the area. The migration of the grey whales are celebrated with the annual Pacific Rim Whale Festival in March, however whales can be seen all year round in these parts. Viewing with binoculars or a scope is good in several areas. Radar Hill and Amphitrite Point Lighthouse are two of the best. Pack a chair, a flask and your strongest binoculars or scope to get really great views of grey, humpback and killer whales, also known as orcas.

Spas, yoga, massage and wellness retreats are part of a healthy holiday regime. Tofino offers world class designer spa treatments, expert beauty services, professional esthetics and holistic and alternative massage programs. Lomi lomi, swedish massage, shiatsu, acupuncture, relaxing therapy, chakra wellness are offered both in the privacy of your own accomodation or in one of the many high class facilities. Tofino based facilities also offer hair salon service, an ocean view steam room, salt water pools and sauna. Private and group hatha, ashtanga and chakra yoga sessions are offered within the community on a daily basis. Keep your eyes on the community boards for special guest yoga instructors often flown in for exclusive workshops.

Hot Springs Cove is a luxury in Tofino that shouldnt be missed. Winter and spring are definitely the best seasons to visit Hot Springs Cove located about an hour north of Tofino by boat or 20 minutes by float plane. A tree canopied boardwalk tour takes you through the mystery of the rainforest from the landing dock to the hot natural pools. Seismic activity heats water bubbling to the surface and over a waterfall high enough to beat down onto a tired neck and shoulders. The hot water flows, decreasing in temperature from pool to pool before finally flowing into the ocean. The most bottom pool tickles the senses as hot water flows in and meets the cold ocean water as you sit within the tidal pull. Soak in the peace and quiet and let the stresses of everyday life melt away.

Tofino and Ucluelet have some world class reasturants. What better way to cap a day exploring the natural wonders than with a delicious meal? Fresh wild and local seafood are the highlights of the Pacific Rim. Salmon, halibut and dungeness crab are the signature dishes of the area. For landlubbers there is also a great assortment of local lamb, duck and triple A tenderloins as well. All meals can be paired with local Vancouver Island wineries or microbrewed beers. How’s that for taste!

If you’re coming for a weekend or a week, a visit to the Pacific Rim National Park, Clayoquot Sound, Tofino or Ucluelet will be sure to rejuvenate you. Once found, this paradise is one you’ll be sure to visit again and again.

Tofino Long Beach is a resource for visitors to the beautiful Pacific Rim National Park, Tofino and Ucluelet on the west coast of Vancouver Island.
